Christ Church Goes To Wembley - 15.11.18

Christ Church goes to Wembley!

On Thursday 15th November, CCE went to see England play USA at the world famous Wembley Stadium. Meeting up after school, 30 children from across KS2, grouped up with their teachers and set off for a memorable evening. After a quick bite to eat on the concourse, the children entered the stadium eagerly. Whilst taking their seats, the children joined in with the national anthem and began to cheer on the team hoping for an England goal. We were not disappointed... Jesse Lingard from 25 yards out curled it into the top corner – England were 1-0 up!

Soon after, England then took a 2-0 lead thanks to a well worked goal from Trent Alexander Arnold. At half time, the children continued to join in with the chanting from the 80,000 people packed into the terraces.

The second half started as had the first, with England dominating possession and chances. Then came the moment everyone at Christ Church – including those in the stadium – were waiting for, Wayne Rooney came on for his last ever appearance in an England shirt! At this point CCE made their voices heard even more! Midway through the second half, Callum Wilson capped off a solid debut with a headed goal, making it 3-0 England!

With England winning comfortably, it was time to head home. As we returned on the train, the children continued to sing and chatter about the match. One even commented that this was ‘The best day that they had ever had!’ Arriving at Erith train station, the children went safely home. An incredible evening was had by all. I’m looking forward to 2019 and the sporting events that it has to offer. Watch this space...
