Class Trip - Black Cultural Archives 19/11/2019
On Tuesday, 19th November, Lichfield Class took a trek across London to visit the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton. After battling transport delays, whcih the children took in thier stride, we arrived at the centre to a warm welcome by Ayshah our leader for the day.
We enjoyed an informative workshop based on the Windrush Journeys. We viewed photos of the arrival of the Empire Windrush bringing migrants from around the British Empire to Britain to live and work.
We learnt about thier lives and challenged they faced as they tried to settle in a new land; and handled artefacts from back the day, inclusing an oil heater, a bus conductor's mobile ticket machine and a typewriter which the bemused class got to trial being more used to tablets and PCs!
After a much needed lunch we returned to school tired but more enlightened by our trip back in time.
