December 2021

Christmas is coming...

This month we have begun our Christmas preparations. With Christmas performances coming up soon, we began learning songs in class and then rehearsing altogether in the Hall.

It was great to be able to perform for the parents and carers this year. The children really sung their hearts out and we are very proud of them.

Amazing Writers

The children have really begun to grasp how to use their phonic knowledge now after weeks of exciting RWI lessons. They are able to apply their skills to writing, using their Fred fingers to help them sound out words before writing them. Here they are writing an equipment list for a polar expedition - what do you think would be the most important thing to take with you?

Ball Skills

Despite some very wintery weather, Exeter Class have been able to get outside and practise their ball skills. The children have also practised this indoors during their PE lesson - bouncing and ball control, as well as aiming and shooting.

Christmas Role Play

Our role play area has magically transformed into a Christmas home. The children are able to wrap up presents, decorate the Christmas tree and write their letters to Father Christmas.

Maths - accurate counting

We have been learning to count accurately, knowing when to stop at the 'stopping' number and knowing that the number tells us how many are in our set.

We practised with the 3 wise men - we rolled a dice to see how many gifts each wise man would need to take to baby Jesus, then accurately counted out the correct number of gifts.

Exercising our finger muscles

We have been practising our fine motor skills by using the tweezers. We decorated the Christmas trees with pom pom 'baubles'. This helps our fingers get stronger and better for writing.

Christmas Decorations

We have made some beautiful sparkly decorations - we are going to take them home and hang them on our own Christmas trees.

We have really enjoyed December and the run-up to Christmas - we can't wait to see what new learning adventures January will bring!
