February 2022

During February we have been exploring and taking part in music making. We have enjoyed listening to music and tried performing solo and in groups. The children greatly enjoyed playing ‘rhythm sticks’. We practised rhythm and beat matching as we added the sounds of simple percussion instruments to favourite nursery rhymes. Some of our favourites were 'The Wheels on the Bus' and Pharrell Williams ‘Happy’.

We have also enjoyed listening to different types of music and talking about what we heard. We listened to 'Lark Ascending' by Vaughan Williams, ‘No Place Like’ by Kerry Andrew  and ‘Finlandia’ by Jean Sibelius. We learnt the musical terms ‘piano’, which means softly, and ‘forte’, which means loud.
