Rochester's January Blog 2021
We have been using the 'Titanium' music video to inspire our writing this half term. The video features a boy who is having a very difficult day at school and follows the events that occur as a result.
We began by writing narratives focusing on using 'show don't tell' to develop tension and pace.
We then moved on to using this story to write reports. We practiced using formal language and wrote a report for Television, some of us even shared videos of ourselves broadcasting the report on Google Classroom!
We then used these skills to help up write Newspaper articles and used dialogue to add details and expand on the story.
In maths we have been using the four operations to solve problems. We have also learned how to solve algebraic equations and use algebra to solve problems such as finding the area of triangles.
Our Science topic is Living Things and Their Habitats. We have learnt how to classify species using the Linnaean system – a way of sorting animals devised by Carl Linnaeus. We have also learned about Micro-Organisms and investigated the conditions needed to grow mold.
We have started our new CCCS butterfly called 'Wish you were here!' We have researched Brazil, listened to Samba music, written a postcard home and designed our own carnival masks.
We have also been researching The Rainforest and used materials found at home to create our own DT projects inspired by animals and features of The Rainforest.
We have been completing PE at home, designing our own workouts and practicing our workouts with Joe Wicks. We have also been completing at home challenges!
