January 2023

Oxford Class welcomed in 2023 with a bang as they explored their new Butterfly 'Once Upon a Wild Wood!' The children have greatly enjoyed exploring a variety of traditional tales. We started looking at 'Jack and the Beanstalk' and now we are enjoying reading 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.' As you can see our reading skills have been a big focus for us. The children have made great progress with their sounds and their blending. We have also been talking about our favourite books, learning to spell and learning to write sentences from our favourite stories!

The children have greatly enjoyed developing their oracy skills and have been applying these to their knowledge of Maths and their 'Understanding the World'. We have been looking at repeating patterns and comparing lengths. We have been exploring mini-beasts and their habitats. While we have been doing this we have been exploring new vocabulary and developing our oracy skills. Questions we have asked have included the following. Do animals live in different habitats? Which is the longest animal? What can I see in a mirror?
