Japan - Land of the Rising Sun
June sees the beginning of our final term in Reception, and the start of our new Olympic topic, 'Unity in Diversity'. We have chosen to focus on the host country of Japan.
The children are enjoying the role play area, practising using chopsticks to eat sushi, holding a tea ceremony and using the fans they have made.
We have tried the ancient art of paper-folding called origami to make our own paper cats:
We have explored and practised a lot of art during this topic, including designing our own kimonos and painting cherry blossom trees:
In literacy we have been learning the traditional Japanese story about Momotaro, the peach boy.
Ask your child to tell the story!
We took turns to 'Hot Seat' the different characters and ask questions:
Momotaro: 'I felt brave when I went to fight the demons'.
Old woman: 'I was surprised when a boy came out of the peach!'.
The building works next to the EYFS outdoor area are progressing well and we have enjoyed watching the vehicles come and go. We have also had fun completing some building ourselves in our outdoor building site role play area:
It has been a great start to our final term with lots of fun and learning still to come.
Check back in July!
