Our learning in May
Our class text this half term is Skellig by David Almond. This month we have been thinking about how Michael feels about finding Skellig. We have written diary entries and newspaper articles. We also learnt how to write balanced arguments.
In maths this month we have been learning how to express missing number problems algebraically and learning how to estimate, compare and calculate volume in cubes and cuboids.
In CCCS we have been using maps in Geography to locate The Pacific Ring of Fire, the major rivers of the world and to learn about coordinates. We have compared and contrasted The Lake District and The Amazon using their human (man made) and physical (naturally occurring) features. We have learnt about the Samba bands, Samba instruments and how these rhythms are used during carnivals. In Design and Technology, we have created our own designs for a new product. In art we looked at sculptures by Anthony Gormley, discussing what we liked most about them and created our own. In PESHR we have created our own slogans and posters to promote sun safety. In worship we have been focusing on creativity and even learnt how to make an origami church!
This term we have been learning about Evolution and Inheritance. We have completed lots of investigations to explain how animals have adapted to their environments and learnt about 'Survival of the fittest'.
