Rochester's January Blog

In maths we have been learning about algebra and how we can use formulas when there is an unknown number or variable in an equation.

Then we moved on to applying this to solving area, perimeter and volume problems.

In English we have been writing narratives inspired by the Titanium music video. We learned how carefully chosen language and sentence structure can create tension. We started by building tense paperchains and practising using high level vocabulary for effect.

Then we used this learning to write our own narratives using these skills to create atmosphere.

In science this half term we have been learning about animals including humans. We have been focusing on the circulatory system and have been learning about the different parts of the lungs and heart and identifying the ways that they keep us alive.

We have created some board games to help others remember the key information.

This half term our Butterfly is 'Rushing Rapids' and we have been learning all about Rivers. We began by identifying the rivers in the world and researched different biomes.

We have also been learning about the different stages in the river system and have written stories inspired by this.
