Rochester's June Blog 2022

In English this half term we have been reading and writing about the book Skellig by David Almond. We started by identifying themes, we noticed that the theme of birds runs throughout the story- especially owls. We have been writing many different pieces of writing across the genres from newspaper reports to narratives and non-chronological reports.

English- Clay birds

Mina, one of the main characters in Skellig, spends her days drawing and creating clay animals. During the novel Mina spends time showing Michael how to make clay birds.

We have been learning how to sketch and used these sketches to create our own clay birds.

We have been learning about Jean-Michel Basquiat and how he was inspired by pop art and graffiti. We created our own mixed media pieces inspired by his portrait work.

This half term we have started our new topic 'The Kingdom of God'.

We have been looking at Christian texts that tell us what Christians believe The Kingdom of God will be like and how that applies to their everyday lives.
