• Race for Life at Christ Church

  In March we held a Race for Life to raise money for Cancer Research and to honour well-loved ex-colleagues who have had their own battles with the disease.

  Ominous clouds looming overhead and a soggy pitch meant the event was swiftly moved from the field to a Monte Carlo style track winding snake-like around the buildings and playgrounds. The original aim was to run three kilometres, or ten circuits of the school. Clearly, we had underestimated the desire and fitness of our pupils, many of whom more than doubled that distance.

  In Year 2, Connor would have probably run until dusk, such was the effortless manner in which he devoured the course. Waiting patiently to start, the Year 6s were finally unleashed and were not going to be outdone. Some children comfortably completing over 10K to loud cheers from the exhausted but happy younger runners as an appreciative sun brushed aside the clouds and cast a spotlight on the gallant participants.

  The teaching assistants did a wonderful job stewarding and watering the giant snake through the school labyrinth. Unperturbed that they had missed out on actually participating on the day, they turned out in force on a muddy final day of term to complete their own Race For Life.

  A wonderful effort from all pupils and staff involved which raised an impressive total of over £2000 for Cancer Research.
