Bexley Primary and Secondary Schools among BEST in country

Figures released today by school regulator Ofsted revealed Bexley to be among the best education providers in the country.

The figures were revealed as part of Ofsted’s Annual Report, which gives the national picture for performance from schools, college and further education providers.

The report gives a breakdown of primary and secondary school performance within each region.

Bexley primary schools have seen an 11 per cent increase in the number of pupils in good or outstanding schools since 2014, with the figure now sitting at 90 per cent.

The borough’s secondary education has seen the second largest change since 2014 in the capital, with 85 per cent of students in good or outstanding schools, up 12 per cent from 2014.

Among the schools, three were listed at outstanding education and skills providers in London, with Christ Church (Erith) CofE Primary School, Westbrooke School and Harris Academy Falconwood all listed.

Across the capital, London was announced the best performing region in the country for pupil’s attainment and progress in reading, writing and mathematics at the end of primary school.

London Regional Director Mike Sheridan said: “London’s schools continue to be the envy of the nation. Children in London, including the most disadvantaged, generally make better progress and reach higher levels of attainment than those in the rest of the country.

“Many of London’s schools stand out and that fact should fill the teachers, school leaders and governors of these institutions with pride.

“Such success does not happen by accident.”

Bexley council’s John Fuller said: “We are very pleased to have 90 per cent of our primary children in ‘good or outstanding schools’ and 95 per cent of our secondary pupils in ‘good or outstanding schools’ both figures above the national average and show strong improvement.

“We work closely with all of our schools through the borough’s Education Improvement Programme’ and hpoe that, as this work continues, Bexley schools’ great performance will continue to improve.

“We are delighted that so many of our very youngest children attain a good level of development by the time they reach the age of five.”
