24/04/21 Salisbury Class

In Salisbury class, we have been looking at an extract of  the story,  ‘No Ballet Shoes in Syria’. We have had lots of fun learning about it and we are now reading it as our class text. A bit of background for you; Aya was a refugee from Syria, living in Manchester. She loved ballet, hearing the sound of music in the community centre caused her to have a flashback of when she was doing ballet in Aleppo, Syria.

We have been focussing on descriptive language and how we can develop settings, characters and plots. We started off by creating our own text maps, which really helped us to understand the plot of the story. We then created our own character descriptions, thinking about how each character would be thinking and feeling, and what their personality may be like, linking our thoughts to the text.

We then innovated the story ourselves, changing the main character and the activity, which we enjoyed very much.
