Truro's December Blog - 17/12/20

Our blog for December is a little bit different. After the sudden closure of Truro class bubble therefore, this blog is a mixture of before virtual learning and during it.

Whilst in school we have been writing amazing setting descriptions set in an enchanted forest, watching virtual pantomimes and looking at different types of fractions.

Our Christmas Safari week, was not what we had originally planned, but we have managed to keep the Christmas sparkle going virtually!

Before we started virtual learning

Before virtual learning, we had been learning about fractions in Maths.

First we recapped our previous learning of the fractions we already know (1/2, 1/4 and 3/4).

We looked at the denominator and the numerator of different fractions and how we know what they are telling us. We then started our new learning which was looking at tenths fractions. We drew our own fractions and also matched fractions up to different amounts. The children are encouraged to speak in full maths sentences explaining their answers to show us what they know and why.

In English, we have been focussing on writing setting and character descriptions. We focused on an enchanted forest and our two main characters Tom and Tiree for this. We thought about our 5 senses to be able to write our setting descriptions. It was really important we could imagine being in the forest so we listened to sound effects and had a sensory tray to feel the leaves and twigs and hear the sounds they make.

In RE this term we have been focusing on The Holy Trinity and how it is made up of three different parts: The Father, The Son and The Holy Spirt. We looked at the The Holy Trinity and drew our own representations of the Trinity.
In our computing sessions we have been learning about coding and how to move and control the Turtle to make it move in different directions and angles. We wrote a list of instructions and commands on how to control the Turtle and the instructions you need to enter in order to get the Turtle to draw a square. We also drew a diagram to show how we moved and controlled the turtle.

I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a happy new year. See you all in 2021!
