Healthy Eating Matters! - 22/11/19

Wells class have been learning all about healthy eating and how making small swaps  can have a big impact on our health.

Every Friday, Lee, who is a professional dietitian, visits Wells class and discusses the importance of each food group and how having too much or too little can affect not only our bodies, but also our minds.

At the end of each session, the children try a different alternative to popular foods such as crisps and cakes.

Lee discussed that swapping cakes for rice cakes and crisps for rice crisps can help help reduce sugar, salt and saturate fats by over half!

Lee taught he children about the 'traffic light' system on foods. Children were told they should look for food which have large amounts of 'green' as these were good for us. Red suggests that they are high in things such as saturated fat, sugars and salt.

Hopefully, the children can apply this to their own eating habits at home and at lunchtime.
