Durham's Class Trip To The National Gallery

Trafalgar Square, London

We visited the National Gallery, to support our work during our 'The Show Must Go On' butterfly.

As a school, we are celebrating 'Culture and The Arts' this term.

We had the most fantastic day out at the National gallery. We took a tour, led by one of the gallery experts, who told us the stories behind the paintings. We even acted out the events in 'Perseus Turning Phineas Into Stone', by Luca Giordano, circa 1660. After our tour, we practised as artists in the gallery, looking at how animals are depicted in art. These artworks linked with our previous science topic, Animals, Including Humans. We studied human and animal forms.

Tiger In a Tropical Storm.

Henri Rousseau1891.

We were surprised to discover that all the paintings at the National Gallery belong to us!
