Maths

In maths this month we have been looking at repeated addition and arrays. In this time we have looked at many different ways that we can solve sharing problems. We looked at what is a row and what is a column first, using this to help us share equally. We then looked at the different ways that we could write this. They wrote equations such as ‘3+3+3, 3 lots of 3 and 3 x 3’. We used lots of different resources to help us like cubes, dienes and pictures of arrays.

English

In English we have been looking at the fantastic story 'Handa’s Surprise'. We have seen that the story is about a girl called Handa who lives in Africa. She was packing fruit in a basket to send to her friend Akeyo when lots of different animal came and stole the fruit in her basket. We learnt these different animals’ names and the names of the different fruits also. We then used this story to write a diary entry about what had happened and how it made her feel. We look at different adjectives we could use to describe the fruit that is stolen in the story. They wrote sentences like; the small red bird stole the soft yellow banana. Next, we innovated the story to a farm. The children continued to write diary entries from Handa about the new farm animals. Finally, we changed our diary entry to when the farmer had delivered the fruit to Christ Church School and we then had to deliver it to a child in York class, but lots of different people were still trying to steal our fruit!

CCCS

Hereford classes CCCS topic this half term was ‘Bon Appetite’. We have looked at lots of different topics surrounding fruit. First, we looked at different foods that were eaten in medieval banquets. We found out that they ate so much food! We then looked at different artists that painted pieces including fruit. We used this to make our own drawings using oil pastels. After this we chopped, peeled and cut different vegetables to make a healthy salad. Before we started we looked at different techniques that we should use for different shapes and sizes. This was super fun and really yummy!

We also came in as our heroes this half term. There were lots of amazing costumes!
