Black History Month - 'We're Going to Find the Monster!'

This month we have been exploring Black History Month by focusing on the book, 'We're Going to Find the Monster' by the fabulous author Malorie Blackman and amazing illustrator Dapo Adeola. You can watch Malorie read the story here:

We're Going to Find the Monster!

We really enjoyed joining in with the story and engaging in some exciting activities!

We looked for the 'foamy fiend' in the 'bubbly bubble lake':

We explored the 'deep dark jungle' while we looked for the 'fierce fearsome tiger':

We used our counting and subitising skills to see how many animals we could see in the pictures:

We even painted our own monsters:

Funky Fingers Friday!

On Friday mornings we have been exercising our hand and finger muscles to help us develop our writing skills. We participate in a range of fine motor activities while we listen to funky music. It is great fun and our writing is getting better all the time.

Autumn Nature Walk

We went on a walk around the school grounds to look for signs of autumn.  We found the leaves on the trees were changing colour from green to yellow, brown, orange and red. We also found lots of seed, nuts and sticks that had fallen from the trees. We were very lucky to spot two green woodpeckers hopping around on the school field!

Sukkot

We have been learning about the Jewish harvest festival of Sukkot. Jewish people remember when their ancestors lived in tents in the desert and they build their own Sukkahs.  We made our own Sukkahs using our tables as frames - we covered them with fabric to make 'tents' and decorated them with the natural things we found.

It's been a really fun month of creative learning and we are now looking forward to our half-term holiday.

See you in November!
