York's June Blog

English

In English, York class have began to look at the story of 'The Highway Rat'. First, they looked at the story map and sequenced the events. Next, we used adjectives to describe the rat and the setting. We wrote sentences such as, The Highwy Rat rides his brown horse down the long lane. Finally, the children innovated the setting and character. We changed the story to 'The Beach Crab'. The children wrote character and setting descriptions using adjectives.

Maths

In maths York class have been looking at tens and ones of a number. We discovered that there are 3 tens and 6 ones in the number 36. The children used numbers up to 100. Next we looked at half and one quarter of a quantity. The children used the four different operations to support their learning. They used the part-part whole model, the bar model, bead strings and colouring a given amount to find the answer.

During the end of June and July York class were joined in with the Queens platinum celebrations and visited Erith fire station as a class trip. We had so much fun together. Please come and take a look at what we have been up to.
