Lichfield's September Blog 2022

English

In English we started by looking at a clip from the film Avatar. We looked at character and setting descriptions and also linked our Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar (SPAG) focus. We added expanded noun phrases in to our descriptions as well as introducing our new Year 5 skill (parenthesis). This allowed us to add extra information to our descriptions. We then in novated our model text, which allowed us to adapt the text and make it our own.

Maths

In Maths we started by looking at place value. We looked at a range of 5 and 6 digit number and identified the value of each digit. For example, In 345,721 the digit 7 represents 700.

We used this to support our understanding of exchanging from one column into the next. This led us on to looking at addition and subtractions. We identified some mental strategies that we could use to complete addition and subtraction strategies, such as round and adjust. Then we moved on to looking at column addition and column subtraction.

Science

In science we have been looking at the life cycle of humans and animals and the different stages of development. We started off by looking at the term gestation and how not all animals have the same gestation periods. Then we identified the different stages of the human life cycle including, foetus, baby, child, teenager, young adult, older adult. We discussed if factors such as diet and sleep aid the development of a human and what impacts this could or could not have.

Here are some pictures of the work we have produced this month:
