Welcome Back - September 2021

Welcome to Chester’s blog. I hope all of the children are enjoying being back at school and I would like to let you know that they are all working hard settling in with new routines in Year 2. If you have any concerns or questions then please do not hesitate to contact Miss Chute.

Look below to find out some of the things we have been doing in our lessons since being back at school.

English

We have been reading some traditional fairy tales to start our learning this year. We started with Cinderella where we used expanded noun phrases to describe her or her step sisters. We then read Jack and the Beanstalk. We used the suffix –ed and the past tense to write a diary entry. Finally we changed the character of Jack to one of our own and wrote our own versions of the story.

Maths

So far this term we have been partitioning 2-digit numbers into tens and ones. We used mathmatical equipment to help us to make 2-digit numbers, clearly showing how many tens and ones we would need. We have used this information to help us to add and subtract numbers too.

CCCS

Our butterfly this term is called ‘Home is Where the Heart is’ and is all about our local area. We looked at photographs of Erith from the past and tried to see if we could recognise any of the landmarks. We found out that there hasn't always been a fish model on the roundabout!

Computing

We have been learning about programing in our Computing sessions. We have been really excited about being able to use the Computing Suite more often. Our first session included us imagining we are robots that can only move with specific instructions such as ‘forward’ or ‘backwards’.

Science

Our topic this term is ‘Animals, including Humans’ and we have been looking at how different animals have different life cycles.
