Hereford Class May Blog 27/05/21

A Very Busy May!

In English, we have been watching the short video - Something Fishy (You can see the video here: https://www.literacyshed.com/something-fishy.html)

The short story is about a young woman who enters a magical world inside a washing machine at the laundrette. The story then ends with a twist!

We have been using this story to innovate our own fantasy adventures. This culminated in a story about a jungle inside a cupboard where animals were made of clothing.

In Maths, we have been learning about measurement (capacity, volume, length and mass). We used cups to make comparisons between volumes using the vocabulary of full, half full, and empty. In the classroom, we used cubes to measure the length of objects and try to find the longest items.

Finally, we measured out ingredients using ml and g to make our own playdough. We had lots of fun making this!

As part of our CCCS butterfly 'Who Will Help Put The Fire Out?' we have been learning more about The Great Fire of London. We have been learning all about Primary and Secondary colours and used these to create a picture of the fire using the colourfield style of Mark Rothko. We also built fire engines using axles to help put the fire out. In Science, we tested plastic, wood and paper to decide which would make the best bridge. We discovered that plastic was the best as it was waterproof.

Below are some photos of what we have been up to!
