January 2022

Welcome to our January blog! We have really enjoyed being back at school after the Christmas holidays and have been very busy!

Maths

In maths this term, we have spent some time learning how to tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes and some of us are even beginning to tell the time to the nearest minute. We learnt about the key language that is important to use when telling the time, such as; O'clock, half past, quarter past, quarter to and intervals. We learnt how the scale on a clock goes in 5's and used our 5 times tables to help us.

Science

In science, we have been learning about forces and magnets. We learnt about what friction is as which surfaces will create more or less friction. We carried out a whole class investigation to see which materials created the most and least friction. We measure how far the car travelled after going down the ramp on each different material.

We have been also looking at the different types of objects that are attracted to magnets. We went around the classroom and created venn diagrams including which objects were magnetic and which weren't. We found out that  the objects that were attracted to magnets were all metal or contained metal.

English

In English, we have been writing our own mystery stories based on our model text 'The Manor House'. We then went on to innovate and write our own mystery stories based in Roman times. We created our own Roman character that was trapped in a Roman villa. We really enjoyed writing mystery stories!
