St Paul's July Blog 2022

Welcome to the last St Paul's blog of the school year! We have had a great last few weeks.

English

In English, our final skill was to write a recount. To identify the features of a recount, we focused on the Commonwealth Games, which are being held in Birmingham in August. We then learnt more about the games, to help us write our own recount of the Manchester 2002 games. Our invented recounts were based on the events the weekend before at the British Grand Prix. There was a lot of chaos during a dramatic crash at the start and it was exciting to recount who were the front runners in the race.

Maths

In Maths we revisited measures and conversion. We practised dividing and multiplying by 10, 100 and 1000 to convert measures and work out which were greater. We also worked on interpreting and creating our own data and graphs. We created tables and bar graphs showing the favourite subjects in our class, surprisingly Maths was not the most popular!

DT

After designing packaging and discussing the ingredients for a stir fry, the time finally came to do the tasting. We used our portable oven and a wok to cook two stir fries and compare. We discussed how healthy they were and what improvements could be made if we did it again. One important point was dietary requirements, which sparked an interesting discussion about what vegetarians and vegans can eat.

WOW week

We had a great time planning all our own lessons for WOW week. We came up with a whole range of different topics and prepared all the things we needed. Some of us cooked food linked to our topics and even designed clothes!
